Over 1300 were at The King Georges Hall last night to celebrate our 16th anniversary. A truly memorable night with all 3 rooms working really well.
I spent most of the time upstairs in the Northern Room where BBC Radio Lancashire’s Keith Fletcher got the night off to a great start with a superb selection of tunes including one of my all-time favourites by Dana Valery , “You babe” (Brunswick LP )
Guest DJ for the night was Wayne Hemingway who had the crowd on his side from his first track, and packed the floor with some gems including Larry Saunders, Esther Phillips, The Moments, James Fountain and BobbyReed’s fab “Time is right” which he dedicated to his wife and to which they danced together – a lovely touch from a great guy and we’ll be telling you more about Wayne’s Vintage festival on this blog over the coming weeks.
My set included around 50 tracks all hugely popular at this great event over the last 16 years- “Landslide”, “If thats what you wanted”, “End of our love”, “My weakness is you”, “Breakout”, “A little bit hurt”, Lenny Curtis, “Looking for you” and “Ain t no mountain high enough”.
Ginger and Pete Eccles then both did admirable sets to send the large crowd home happy.
Downstairs in the Windsor Suite the new layout has worked wonders and the atmosphere was electric to the sets from Wayne, Colin, Mark and Ian, while in Blakeys we had the usual wall-to-wall packer and great tunes from the returning Barry Maleady, Andy Davies (nice shirt Andy!) and of course Mike Stephens.
Thanks to you if you were there, the next King Georges Hall 3 room soul night takes place on Easter Saturday, April 23rd and tickets priced at only £10 each are on sale on 01254 582582.
The big buzz on the night was all about the forthcoming All Nighter at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on Saturday February 12th – I ll be releasing more details about our first event at this superb venue later this week. In the meantime tickets priced at £12.50 each for this 9pm-6am 3 room session are available now on 01909 515150
