With 3 events ( two in dodgy weather conditions) now under our belt, it’s feeling like Lowton is back to stay.
Guest DJs are now booked for the Northern room until well into 2012, with quite a waiting list too.
Our next night takes place on Friday March 9th when the guest will be Nige Brown, one of the UK’s most popular DJs and a regular at events such as the Blackpool Tower, The Winter Gardens, Stoke Kings Hall etc.
Joining Nige in the Northern room will be Bob Hinsley, Ginger and myself and between 8.30 and 1.00am we will be featuring our usual blend of classic and quality underplayed 60s and 70s Northern.
Following a slow-ish start, theĀ second room featuring Modern soul classics has now picked up dramatically , with quite a large contingent making the journey from as far away as Yorkshire and the Midlands to hear sets from Bob and Barry Maleady. We will be introducing guest DJs in the Modern room in the near future with John O Donnell already slated to appear at the June event.
Lowton Civic has a huge free car park, great bar prices and record dealers and merchandisers are welcome to take up one of the 8 tressel tables on offer. Steve Plumb has displayed a superb selection of rare 45s at the last two events in addition to our resident record dealer, Glenn Brierley.
So if you want a guaranteed good night out, with some awesome tunes and over 250 friendly faces, check it out :

Richard,
I was at the Ritz in January when you were playing, great show by the way. You played a record announcing it as “The Next Big Record to Take Off” or something like that. I never caught the title but loved the tune, can you recall this and the name of the record please.
Sorry I have attached this comment here, couldn’t find anywhere else suitable

Hi Dave
Thanks for getting in touch.
I was mightily impressed with Brighouse – the crowd were really up for it, a sensational atmosphere and what a venue.
I do vaguely remember playing a couple of tracks which I thought could become big revivals……but I can t think what they were!
I do remember raving about Darrell Banks “Somebody somewhere” and hoping people would get up to it (which thankfully they did), but other than that , I ll need to play back the video a friend made of my spot to find out what the mystery track was.
Once I ve had chance to do that – I ll let you know!
Kind regards
Richard

hi richard,
think dave was probably thinking of barbara & brenda, “never love a robin which is awesome detroit and of course, the tune EVERYBODY is raving about again…the fidels, ” try a little harder” and believe me,…this record is proving illusive to get hold of but what an absolute stormer!!
looking forward to the DOUBLE HEADER WEEKENDER,…its gonna be one to remember!

Thanks Richard,
we have been going to Brighouse quite regularly, all the way from Grimsby, love the venue, the people, the atmosphere and the music. No it wasn’t Darrell Banks, got that and love it, I agree with you, so underplayed and unapreciated. I wish I had paid more attention now, but was too exhausted dancing to your set, well I am 60 years old this year.
