Great to see so many Northern Soul lovers have flooded the Smooth radio website (www.smoothradio.com) with votes for our All – Time Northern Soul TOP 20 survey that will be broadcast live to the nation next Monday August 29th between 8pm and Midnight.
In addition to that chart, which of course is packed with All Nighter classics from The Torch, The Twisted Wheel and of course the Casino Club, Wigan, Kev Roberts and myself will also be featuring a run-down of today’s biggest Northern Soul dancefloor winners and taking the opportunity to chat with some legendary Northern soul artists too!
We will be inviting interaction with the programme on the night via e mails and texts, and of course giving a mention to as many of the entrants to the online survey as we possibly can.
We will also have 20 copies of the great new Warners triple CD set “After Hours” up for grabs in an easy-to-enter competition, so have those pens and papers ready from 8 o clock on Monday night………….
Last year’s August broadcast brought an incredible response from all over the UK and this time it’s looking even stronger , so make a date to be near a radio this coming Bank Holiday Monday as we bring you 4 hours of incredible Northern Soul classic performances from the past and the present, exclusively on Smooth Radio.

Whatever or whichever track you pick, ten minutes later you think and swear, how did I ever forget that sound? Its a toss-up between Queen of Fools byBarbara Mills and Crackin Up Over You by Roy Hamilton. Both of these tracks evoke memories of Early Days of The Highland Room in Blackpool and as all the records you will be playing, they remain Floorfillers.Nuff Said.

Hi Steve
Good to hear from you – two excellent choices for consideration on the national Northern Soul programme in a couple of weeks.
The response has been pretty awesome via the Smooth website and we are presenting the programme as a Northern Soul “Double TOP 20″…..8-10 pm as voted for via the website, then between 10-Midnight , today’s 20 hottest floorfillers.
Hope to see you at the big Winter Gardens All Nighter on Saturday September 10th.
Kind regards
Richard

Hi Richard,
I am so happy to have caught up with your activities. As a long time follower of Soul/RnB etc…its great to know where I can still listen to your outstanding contribution to musical awareness.
I used to frequent Expansions for many years and it was Dean who kept me supplied when I moved to Holland many years ago.
Having returned to my Native NorthWest now, music is still a large part of my life.
I did a remix for Karen Bernod which was very well received for her Brooklyn crew back in 2008.
I have also done work for Janine Johnson too, but the label got all touchy and wanted me to sign away the master files…you know the score eh!
I am now embarking a real journey into the dark depths of audio tech and production, its been a real struggle, but I keep going. Everything I have learnt is all self taught.
Below are three remixes for Alicia Keys, its for submission re: Remix Project based on her first album.
The Butterflies remix is based around that strong 80s synth style, Fallin is a kind of 2011 Dubstep thing and Rock wit ya is an EZ techstep/DnB thing.
None of this would have been possible if you had not existed or followed your DJ/Soul route. Along with Greg Wilson ( whom I am in touch with ) your passion for quality groove based music has brought me to this point. I will always be indebted to your taste.
I will check out the new shows and hopefully attend a night real soon.

PS – One thing I miss from NL is North Sea Jazz and The Hague Jazz festivals, I wish you could use your influence to help develop Wigan Jazz into something as big for the future.
Favourite all time track still remains Tim Bowman’s “I’ll Be There” from his Love, Joy & Peace album; this track has got me through so many dark times.
THANK YOU
